If you have an E-Commerce store and want to process credit cards such as Visa, Master Card, Discover, etc. one of the safest and most effective ways is to use a Payment Gateway.   The payment gateway connects your online store to a merchant account. The payment gateway also gives you a virtual terminal to process cards.

What is a Merchant Account?  A merchant account takes credit card transactions, batches them, and sends the money to your business banking account.

What is a Virtual Terminal?  It is simply a secure web page hosted by the payment gateway processor to allow you to process payments from any computer with an internet connection.  It is extremely useful as it allows you to review your daily processing, batches, run reports, etc.   It will even allow you to take phone or "in person" orders by typing the credit card and billing information directly into the screen as your customer reads that information to you.
